The Truth About Anxiety: What You Need To Know

Anxiety Blog

Anxiety can feel overwhelming. It’s often surrounded by endless opinions, strategies, and fixes - all promising relief.

Believe me, I tried them all, more than once!

For years, I gave everything a shot because I wanted so badly to stop feeling anxious. The harder I tried, the more elusive relief seemed.

But here’s the good news: there’s a happy ending to my story - and there can be for yours too.

What Is Anxiety, Really?

At its core, anxiety is a feeling - a feeling that stems from anxious thoughts. It’s a fear-based emotion, and here’s the kicker: it doesn’t exist in the present moment. Anxiety thrives when we jump into the future, trying to predict or prepare for what might happen.

But the truth is, no one can predict the future. If we could, we’d all be fabulously wealthy by now! So, why do we spend so much energy trying to control the uncontrollable?

The Wisdom Within You

Here’s something incredible: we don’t need to predict the future.

Human beings are built with an innate wisdom - an intelligence behind life itself. This is the same intelligence that orchestrates nature, guiding the seasons, the tides, and every living thing.

This wisdom also guides you. It helps you navigate each moment as it comes - no anxious future-planning required.

Think of stories where people have faced unimaginable adversity, surprising everyone with their resilience and grace. That’s wisdom in action. It’s not a rare gift; it’s inside every single one of us, waiting to be heard.

Anxious Thoughts vs. Your True Nature

Anxious thoughts can drown out this wisdom if we give them too much energy. They’re like turning up the volume on a noisy, unhelpful radio station - fuelling a fire that doesn’t need to burn.

But here’s the key: thoughts are not facts.

They are not truths. They’re just thoughts.

And like clouds in the sky, they will inevitably pass if you allow them to.

When we get caught up in anxious thinking, it often feels like we’re searching for a warning sign, a hidden truth, or something we need to fix. But this search is based on a misunderstanding. Anxiety is not a disease or a permanent state - it’s simply a feeling.

You Are Not Your Anxiety

For years, I believed my diagnoses defined me. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Acute Panic Disorder, and Depression became labels that felt inescapable. Doctors told me I’d need to learn to live with these conditions, and for a long time, I believed them.

But then something changed. I learned to see my anxious thoughts for what they were - temporary, not permanent. I stopped fearing my experiences, and everything shifted.

Since then, I’ve faced significant challenges, including having a baby and navigating a cancer diagnosis. Yet, I’ve never returned to the place of anxiety I once knew.

And let me tell you: this transformation is possible for every single human being. No exceptions.

Are we overcomplicating mental health?

The continuous spiral of talking about mental illness and neglecting to discuss mental health that’s within us all!

Finding herself in a mental hospital for a month aged 22, her worst fears of going crazy had come true! Sarie truly believed she was broken for many years, and now sees that this was in part due to massively over complicating what it meant be a human being. After a long period of exploring and training as a psychotherapist, still burning out every 18 months for another ten years, Sarie finally found the answer, and now shares the surprising simplicity of it all to help others get the same relief.

Sarie has trained as a transactional analysis psychotherapist, as well as working and training in many other therapeutic disciplines, such as NLP, CBT, DBT and hypnotherapy. Sarie is also an author, celebrity coach and therapist, working with thousands of people a year, of all ages, all over the world. Her main aim is to help them really see the simplicity and beauty behind human nature, getting out of their heads and into their lives, being able to see that the inside out nature of life really is a gift. This removes limitations and stories they may hold about themselves, and as a result finding an ease and contentment in life they often never knew was possible.
