Feeling Powerless? The Truth About Disempowerment

the truth about disempowerment

Disempowerment Is a State of Mind

Feeling powerless or stuck in life can be overwhelming. It’s easy to believe that our circumstances dictate our happiness, but the truth is, disempowerment is not a fixed reality - it’s a state of mind.

All feelings stem from our thoughts. If you feel stuck, it’s likely because you’re telling yourself that you are. You might believe that nothing will change or that you’re trapped in a situation you dislike. But what if you could shift that mindset?

Acceptance: The Key to Moving Forward

It’s natural to want change, whether it’s a better job, a different relationship, or a new opportunity. However, the first step toward transformation isn’t resistance - it’s acceptance. When we fully acknowledge where we are right now, without judgment, we create space for growth.

Think about it: You can’t instantly flip a switch and transform your situation overnight, but you can take steps toward the life you want. As human beings, we are always evolving. Change is part of our nature, and we are never truly stuck.

Shift from Stuck to Curious

One of the biggest barriers to change is the belief that happiness only comes after achieving something. Thoughts like “I won’t be happy until I get there” or “It’s too big, I don’t know where to start” create procrastination and paralysis.

Instead, try shifting your mindset to curiosity. Ask yourself:

  • What do I truly want?

  • What small steps can I take today to move in that direction?

  • How can I embrace where I am while still working toward something new?

When we stop resisting our current reality and start exploring possibilities with curiosity, we gain momentum.

Accessing Inner Peace Unlocks Creativity

The more at peace we are with our present circumstances, the easier it becomes to access our wisdom, creativity, and inner guidance. From a place of acceptance, we naturally start seeing opportunities and solutions we couldn’t recognise before.

When we operate from a mindset of helplessness, our perspective narrows. But when we embrace the present with openness, we unlock the clarity and confidence needed to move forward.

Final Thoughts: You Are Never Truly Stuck

If you’re feeling disempowered, remember this: You always have the ability to evolve. Your thoughts shape your reality, and by shifting from resistance to acceptance, you open the door to change.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to take the next small step. And then the next. Before you know it, you’ll be moving forward - not from a place of struggle, but from a place of empowerment.

What’s one small step you can take today?

Are we overcomplicating mental health?

The continuous spiral of talking about mental illness and neglecting to discuss mental health that’s within us all!

Finding herself in a mental hospital for a month aged 22, her worst fears of going crazy had come true! Sarie truly believed she was broken for many years, and now sees that this was in part due to massively over complicating what it meant be a human being. After a long period of exploring and training as a psychotherapist, still burning out every 18 months for another ten years, Sarie finally found the answer, and now shares the surprising simplicity of it all to help others get the same relief.

Sarie has trained as a transactional analysis psychotherapist, as well as working and training in many other therapeutic disciplines, such as NLP, CBT, DBT and hypnotherapy. Sarie is also an author, celebrity coach and therapist, working with thousands of people a year, of all ages, all over the world. Her main aim is to help them really see the simplicity and beauty behind human nature, getting out of their heads and into their lives, being able to see that the inside out nature of life really is a gift. This removes limitations and stories they may hold about themselves, and as a result finding an ease and contentment in life they often never knew was possible.
