Does Mental Health Limit You in Your Career?
Exploring The Three Principles with Sarie Taylor
Does your mental health limit you in a work sense?
This was something I wanted to share with others that work for themselves like me, as I had been reflecting on how I got to where I am now form where I started, which was a very different place!Â
I had never really imagined or even aspired to work for myself.
I initially saw myself as someone who would climb the corporate ladder in someone else’s business. I always did pretty well wherever I worked, but I also always felt there was more inside of me but I was limited.
I initially saw myself as someone who would climb the corporate ladder in someone else’s business. I always did pretty well wherever I worked, but I also always felt there was more inside of me but I was limited.
Why did I feel limited?
I felt restricted and limited by mental health (sounds crazy to say that now what a contradiction in terms ‘mental health’ and ‘limited’) but this was because I saw myself as mentally unhealthy and not "having" mental health.
I was always waiting for the next burnout or the next time everything would be put on pause because I couldn’t ‘cope’.
I now know this is not true. I could always and have always coped 100% of the time, I just needed to alter my perspective of what coping meant and recognising sooner when I needed to slow down.Â
I may be wrong but I feel a lot of people hold back from starting their own business for similar reasons to what I did: feeling inadequate or not enough for the bigger, wider world!Â
- We may feel that we are misunderstood when in fact we are perfect just as we are, the general population often misunderstands human nature hence so much suffering takes place. You ARE enough for whatever you want to do!
- We put too much pressure and expectation on ourselves. We don’t need pressure to do well in fact the less pressure we place on ourselves the more our creativity and ideas flow with ease.
- We believe that there is a set way we should and shouldn’t be doing things comparing ourselves to everyone else. Our way IS the way for us.Â
Although I started working for myself as a way of escaping what I felt was a difficult working world to navigate when I was anxious, I am now so grateful that I did, because I absolutely adore my business and the work I get to do.
I no longer burnout for long periods of time
I no longer feel that I am inadequate for my business and the work I do (ever!).
I even now get to help others see this for themselves too. Remember you can choose what you do based on what you want and desire as opposed to necessity, this is how our business and work becomes sustainable, because we love it!

Imagine if you could choose what you did every day for work?
What would you be doing differently? I would love to know!Â

Are we overcomplicating mental health?Â
The continuous spiral of talking about mental illness and neglecting to discuss mental health that’s within us all!Â
Finding herself in a mental hospital for a month aged 22, her worst fears of going crazy had come true! Sarie truly believed she was broken for many years, and now sees that this was in part due to massively over complicating what it meant be a human being. After a long period of exploring and training as a psychotherapist, still burning out every 18 months for another ten years, Sarie finally found the answer, and now shares the surprising simplicity of it all to help others get the same relief.Â
Sarie has trained as a transactional analysis psychotherapist, as well as working and training in many other therapeutic disciplines, such as NLP, CBT, DBT and hypnotherapy. Sarie is also an author, celebrity coach and therapist, working with thousands of people a year, of all ages, all over the world. Her main aim is to help them really see the simplicity and beauty behind human nature, getting out of their heads and into their lives, being able to see that the inside out nature of life really is a gift. This removes limitations and stories they may hold about themselves, and as a result finding an ease and contentment in life they often never knew was possible.Â
