Exploring The Three Principles with Sarie Taylor

Is it all plain sailing?

When you get this blog I will be on the Princess Sky Cruise Ship on my holidays with my family.

We absolutely love cruising, the rumours of it only being for old people, is not true (you are only as old as you feel anyway!). We find it a very easy and relaxing holiday for the whole family.

Anyway, I am not selling cruise holidays so I will move on to the reason for this blog.

We have been going on these cruise holidays for over ten years now, and every time I get on one I remember back to when we first started cruising: I was severely anxious.

I vividly remember the minute the ship would sail away, and the people on the ship would clap and applaud all excited for their holidays starting.  I was sat there with a smile on my face for the family, but internally I instantly felt trapped!

My anxious thinking would ramp up the second we left the shore.

How did the sailing away from the shore have the ability to make me feel anxious?
Why wasn’t everyone else anxious around me as we were all sailing away?

Well it was nothing to do with anything external to me, it was my internal story and my internal dialogue about what sailing away meant!

It was only what it meant to me by the way I had internalised it. (Remember last weeks blog on The Stories We Tell Ourselves?)

  • I wasn’t safe
  • What if I have a panic attack?
  • What if I feel so uncomfortable I lose it?
  • What if I spoil it for everyone else?

I used to put so much pressure on myself to be ‘OK’ that as a result I really didn’t feel OK!

Now I love my cruise holidays, and my experience of them now is so different. I don’t put pressure on myself to make sure everyone else has a great time, that's up to them.

I no longer scan or analyse my environment for danger as I know that my wisdom would guide me whatever shows up, and I trust myself so much more!

My moods will ebb and flow and that's all OK.

Isn’t it funny that we sometimes put pressure on ourselves to constantly be ‘happy’ or ‘having fun’ on holiday?
It's almost as though we expect the natural way a human works to be different because we are on holiday!

You may still get tired, you may still feel irritable at times and you may also experience lots of joy too.

Whether we are away on holiday, or at home, we do not need to be anything other than human!

Are we overcomplicating mental health?

The continuous spiral of talking about mental illness and neglecting to discuss mental health that’s within us all!

Finding herself in a mental hospital for a month aged 22, her worst fears of going crazy had come true! Sarie truly believed she was broken for many years, and now sees that this was in part due to massively over complicating what it meant be a human being. After a long period of exploring and training as a psychotherapist, still burning out every 18 months for another ten years, Sarie finally found the answer, and now shares the surprising simplicity of it all to help others get the same relief.

Sarie has trained as a transactional analysis psychotherapist, as well as working and training in many other therapeutic disciplines, such as NLP, CBT, DBT and hypnotherapy. Sarie is also an author, celebrity coach and therapist, working with thousands of people a year, of all ages, all over the world. Her main aim is to help them really see the simplicity and beauty behind human nature, getting out of their heads and into their lives, being able to see that the inside out nature of life really is a gift. This removes limitations and stories they may hold about themselves, and as a result finding an ease and contentment in life they often never knew was possible.
