How Can I Be Normal?

Sarie's Thoughts·sarie taylor·Jun 28, 2023· 2 minutes

Willing ourselves to be normal, whatever that is, takes us away from our peace in mind in that moment.

One of my most favourite mentors, Jack Pransky, once gave me a valuable insight: we cannot simply 'think' our way to well-being.

This idea has stayed with me for years, and yet I still sometimes find myself attempting to do just that. However, true well-being comes from being present in the moment and accepting ourselves as we are, allowing life to unfold naturally.

It's easy to get caught up in our thoughts and try to analyse our way out of negative emotions or situations. But this often leads to more stress and anxiety, as we become trapped in a cycle of overthinking.

Instead, when we get present and let go of our desire to control everything, we can find peace and contentment.

Being present means fully engaging with our surroundings and experiences, without judgment or distraction.

It means acknowledging our thoughts and feelings, but not getting lost in them.

When we are present, we are able to accept ourselves as we are, flaws and all, (in fact we see that they are not really flaws at at all!) and trust that everything will work out.

So next time you find yourself struggling to 'think' your way to well-being, take a step back and get present in the moment. (This is your default by the way!) Embrace the flow of life and trust that everything will fall into place.

With understanding, compassion and acceptance, you'll find that true well-being is within you always.

Being normal is just "Being".
